In co-operation with Chris Harvey at the 1 in 49 Studios in North Yorkshire, Stanley has completed a project to get ALL of his recordings collected together on a sound DVD for downloading as a complete archive for sale. As Stanley has recorded 14 cassettes and, now, 9 CD's, this means that 236 Stanley Accrington compositions are available in one place. The DVD is entitled:-
LEAGUE RECORD
For just the cost of 2 CD's (£20 incl P&P) you can get all 23 recorded albums and some other tracks. If you are interested, drop Stanley an email on stanacc62@hotmail.com and he will sort things out. They were first on sale at two August 2019 Festivals, Saltburn and Whitby where initial sales were very good. Since then sales have been steady despite lockdown.
in 2018, Stanley was approached by Accrington Stanley football club to help produce a commemorative booklet on the occasion of their highest achievement in football, promotion to League One. Stanley has written an account of the successful campaign in verse and this appears alongside a raft of photographs and a rake of statistics. The book was published in July 2018.
In November 2019, Stanley reached the milestone of 2000 career solo gigs (at Patterdale in the Lake District). Over 40 years, this works out at about one a week - his ideal rate of work, though it seldom works out at a regular rate.
2020 was tricky ....
The World stopped turning in March 2020 with the ravages of the Covid19 virus. Stanley made a possibly rash, but thankfully not, decision to travel to London on 14 March to play at the excellent Cellar Upstairs club to what was, in the circumstances, a reasonable number of people. Two days later, restrictions re Covid forced all venues to close for the foreseeable future. Stanley has been promised re-bookings at all "lost" bookings so far. He did manage a couple of virtual Zoom bookings in late 2020 - for the Bowes Park club in London, and for the Great Knights club in Northampton.
House detention was a bit grimmish, but the Monday night Middleton Oddfellows session carried on in virtual form, organised by Stanley and Mrs Accrington for an astonishing 75 weeks (co-MC'd with Michelle Holding). We had around 30 participants each session from as far away as Spain, Florida, New Mexico and Royton. A bit of fun to lighten the gloom. And Stanley has continued to write lots of new songs of course.
But in September 2021 the shackles were loosened enough to allow live music again. The Oddfellows pub was no longer available but after a couple of trial sessions at The Dog in Chadderton, the "Oddies" crew found a new home at the Middleton Archer in Middleton..(It has since been forced to move to the nearby Carters Arms, Rhodes, Middleton)
2021 started to see things slowly return to normal .... and by 2022 it's almost like old times.
In June, for the Queens "Plati-Jube" Stanley was asked to dep for an Oldham Tinker for a concert due to be held on the Town Hall Steps (q.v. John Willie's Horse) but moved to the Parish Hall due to rain. Therefore Stanley has now appeared for 2 prestigious Lancashire groups, The Oldham Tinkers and The Alan Bell Band. Who'd have thought ....
Now that gig venues are starting to open up, Stanley would love to get back on the road, and he promises not to get double-booked again. Honest.
For 2022, a reasonable number of bookings came in.
in 2023, Stanley was on his travels in March and much of April, but the songs aren't drying up and some projects are in embryonic form ..... And with all the news of the day, there has been a LOT to write about.
NEWER NEWS
Stanley has recorded some additional tracks for songs composed since 2018, and these have been added to "League Record" making a total of over 250 songs. Yet the price, £20, remains the same. The original version (a mere 236 tracks) is remaindered at £15 for a limited time. Contact Stanley for details .......
Stanley and Mrs Accrington had a wonderful trip to San Francisco, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia (including Tasmania) and Singapore in March and April 2023. Now he needs some more work - so if you have any suggestions ........
As 2024 unfolds, Stanley would love to get back to the folk clubs before he gets too old.
